SESRIC, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Office on Smoking and Health, and CDC Foundation launched the Report on ‘Implementation of the Tobacco Questions for Surveys (TQS) in Selected OIC Member Countries: Evidence for Action’ on 8 December 2021.
SESRIC and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), member of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, prepared a technical report investigating the potential impacts of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on selected OIC countries, namely Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Guinea, Mozambique, Tunisia and Uganda. The study employs the computable general equilibrium model developed by the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) in order to estimate the potential long-term effects of the agreement on these countries. The report accordingly assess output, trade and welfare effects focusing mainly on these six countries and provide some policy directions towards better utilizing the Agreement based on the projected outcomes.
This report attempts to assess the performance and economic role of the international tourism sector in D-8 countries in the latest five-year period for which the data are available. It analyses the two traditionally used indicators in measuring international tourism, i.e. international tourist arrivals and international tourism receipts.
D-8 Economic Outlook analyses the trends in major economic indicators for D-8 countries, as a group, during the latest five-year period (2011-2015). It investigates these trends in a comparative manner with the groups of other OIC countries, non-OIC developing countries, developed countries as well as the world economy as a whole and highlights a number of constraints and challenges confronting the D-8 countries in their efforts to enhance their economic development and progress.
The Final Report of the “Atlas of Islamic World Science and Innovation (AIWSI)” Project has been launched as sidelines to the Seventh Islamic Conference of Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research (ICMHESR) held on 18-19 December 2014 in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco. The launch event was attended by Ministers and High-level Officials of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the OIC Member Countries.
Located in the strategically crucial Horn of Africa on the eastern edge of the continent - adjacent to the Red Sea, Suez Canal and key commercial waterways, Somalia is one of the most important countries in the Sub-Saharan Africa region with its 10.5 million dynamic population spread over an area of 637,540 square kilometres. However, internal conflicts, on-going clashes among different groups and severe drought heavily affected the pace of development in Somalia over the last decade.
This report provides an overview of the past natural disasters in Afghanistan and evaluates the risks and vulnerabilities in the country. Based on these assessments, the report offers some general guidelines in preventing and mitigating the potential disasters in Afghanistan. It also includes analyses of the effective approaches in response to and recovery from these disasters and provides relevant recommendations.
SESRIC prepared the OIC Women and Development Report 2021 with the theme of ‘Progress towards the Implementation of the OIC Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW)’ as a technical background document for the 8th Ministerial Conference on Women, which will be held on 06-08 July 2021 in Cairo, Egypt. The 2021 edition of the report presents a comparative analysis of the status of women in OIC member countries in line with the objectives of the OIC Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW) and assesses their performance towards the implementation of OPAAW based on member countries’ responses to the ‘OPAAW Implementation Survey 2019’. The report also provides a number of success stories and best practices to highlight the policy experiences of selected OIC member countries towards the advancement of women.
