SESRIC has launched the report on “Urban Development in OIC Countries: Towards Sustainable Urbanization” that discusses the current state of urbanization in OIC countries while highlighting main factors leading to increase in urbanization. The report also underlines the impacts of urbanization and assesses some critical issues related to urban development in OIC member countries, such as human mobility in different forms and environmental pressures and urban resilience. The report concludes with a discussion on sustainable management of urbanization and presents relevant policy recommendations.
The 13th Islamic Summit Conference (Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace) held in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey in April 2016 called for support and scaling up the program of economic empowerment for the Palestinian people and called upon governments, private sectors, organisations and individuals to contribute to its resources. As a response to this call, the partnership titled “Syria-Palestinian Employment and Entrepreneurship Development (SPEED)”, was launched by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group. A socio-economic survey covering Syria Palestinian refugees in Turkey was conducted under the SPEED Project in the second half of 2018.
The 2019 edition of the OIC Health Report was launched during the 7th Islamic Conference of Health Ministers held on 15-17 December 2019 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General of SESRIC, addressed the Conference and presented the main findings of the report.

SESRIC has launched the report on “Current Practices of OIC Countries on Islamic Banking and Finance Data” on 23 September 2019. The Report includes 3 sections.
SESRIC in cooperation with the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) prepared the report “Human Rights Standards and Institution in OIC Member States” to address the growing human rights concerns and efforts of the OIC Member States. The report thoroughly examines the human rights framework in the OIC Member States by drawing attention to its existing human rights norms, standards and institutions. The report also investigates the human rights violations toward Muslims in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Myanmar and the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir as these violations have an immense impact and influence on the OIC’s human rights framework.
SESRIC published its first edited book on Financing for Development. As an outcome of the “International Symposium on Financing for Development” that SESRIC organised in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank on 22-23 November 2018 in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, the book presents alternative views and perspectives on different dimensions of financing for development in developing countries including OIC countries. It involves 17 essays authored by high level policy-makers, finance experts and academicians from different national, regional and international institutions.
SESRIC collaborated with the Social Sciences University of Ankara (SSUA) to conduct the Global Muslim Diaspora (GMD) Project. This project aimed to map the societal, economic, and legal presence and influence of Muslim communities in predominantly non-Muslim societies.
The Global Muslim Diaspora – United Kingdom (UK) report addresses gaps in the literature regarding global Muslim diasporic community by comprehensively examining the principle aspects of UK’s Muslim population. The study utilizes survey analysis, in-depth interviews, roundtable meetings and workshops to understand the major characteristics and challenges that Muslims in the UK face.
The Global Muslim Diaspora – South Africa report addresses gaps in the literature regarding global Muslim diasporic community by comprehensively examining the principle aspects of South Africa’s Muslim population. The study utilizes survey analysis, in-depth interviews, roundtable meetings and workshops to understand the major characteristics and challenges that Muslims in South Africa face. The study finds that Muslim communities in South Africa are a heterogeneous group that cannot be classified into a single category. The reason behind the diversity of Muslims in South Africa lies in their ethnonational and racial background, their historical organizational presence in the country and their socioeconomic status.
SESRIC has published a research report titled “Achieving peace and security in a world of turmoil: An Arduous Challenge for the OIC.” The report probes the required ingredients for conflict prevention and management in OIC countries, enhancing the OIC peace and security architecture, developing institutional mechanisms for sustainable peace and security in OIC countries, and exploring alternative paths for achieving sustainable peace.
