Date: 01-03 July 2025
Venue: SESRIC-Ankara - Türkiye

SESRIC, in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat), Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS) and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), organized a Training Workshop on “Quality Assurance for Countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation” on 1-3 July 2025 at its headquarters in Ankara, Türkiye.

With the participation of 41 representatives from 14 OIC countries, the workshop aimed to strengthen the capacities of the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) in implementing quality assurance frameworks across their national statistical systems to enhance the reliability and credibility of official statistics. The workshop provided an in-depth overview of the United Nations National Quality Assurance Framework (NQAF) and its implementation guidance.

Through informative sessions and group exercises, the training workshop supported the participants in advancing their knowledge on quality assurance in the use of administrative and other data sources by introducing newly developed quality assurance tools, and facilitated peer learning through the exchange of best practices and country experiences.

Bringing together representatives of the NSOs from OIC countries, the training workshop contributed to the harmonisation and enhancement of quality assurance mechanisms across national statistical systems, supporting evidence-based policymaking and the production of high-quality official statistics.

The workshop has been organized in line with the Strategic Objective 5.1 of the OIC-StatCom Programme of Action for 2021-2025, which emphasizes the improvement of quality assurance frameworks in national statistical systems across OIC member countries. Furthermore, the initiative is aligned with Resolution Items 1, 2, and 3 of the 13th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom), which call for the implementation, follow-up, and reporting of key actions under the OIC-StatCom Programme of Action and encourage NSOs to take necessary steps for producing monitoring and evaluation indicators for OIC programmes of action.
