SESRIC Organised a Side Event on ‘Accelerating Data-Driven Energy Transitions through Collaborative Data Ecosystems’ in the Margins of the 56th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission
Date: 18 February 2025
Venue: Virtual-New York, USA

In collaboration with AITRS, ESCWA, IEA, TURKSTAT, and UNSD, SESRIC organised a virtual side event titled “Accelerating Data-Driven Energy Transitions through Collaborative Data Ecosystems” in the margins of the 56th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC).

The event convened over 60 participants from 20 OIC countries, including representatives from National Statistical Offices (NSOs), Ministries of Energy (MoEs), international organisations, and research institutions. The discussions focused on the importance of collaborative data ecosystems in enabling sustainable energy transitions, highlighting the critical role of high-quality, timely, and interoperable energy data in shaping effective policies.

The first session featured regional and international perspectives on collaborative data ecosystems for energy transitions, with expert insights from ESCWA, UNSD, and IEA. The second session focused on country experiences, where speakers from Malaysia, Türkiye, and Uganda shared best practices and methodologies for strengthening national energy data systems to facilitate energy transition strategies.

The webinar covered the following key topics:

  • Strategies to improve data collection, integration, and dissemination for renewable energy transitions.
  • Strengthening partnerships between NSOs, Ministries of Energy, and international organisations to enhance data-sharing and interoperability.
  • Utilising advanced data systems and emerging technologies to support evidence-based energy transition policies.
  • Lessons learned from regional and global initiatives in energy statistics and the SEEA Energy framework.

This side event provided a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration, enabling national, regional, and international institutions to explore innovative solutions for strengthening data-driven energy transitions.
