SESRIC Participated in the 56th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission
Date: 04-07 March 2025
Venue: New York, USA

The 56th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) took place from 4-7 March 2025 in New York, bringing together representatives from National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and international organizations.

As the highest decision-making body for international statistical activities, the Commission addressed key topics such as national accounts, population and housing censuses, data science, and indicators for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The session also featured discussions on emerging trends, methodologies, and frameworks to advance global statistical systems and enhance data-driven decision-making.

In its capacity as the Secretariat of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom), SESRIC actively participated in the 56th Session of the UNSC and contributed to discussions on statistical development in OIC countries.

As part of its engagement, SESRIC also organized three side events in the margins of the Commission:

  • Accelerating Data-Driven Energy Transitions through Collaborative Data Ecosystems (18 February 2025)
  • Follow-up Meeting of the 13th Session of the OIC-StatCom (5 March 2025)
  • Harnessing Technological Developments for Modernizing National Statistical Systems in OIC and ESCWA Member Countries (6 March 2025)

These events provided a platform to enhance statistical cooperation, exchange best practices, and strengthen the role of National Statistical Systems (NSSs) in supporting sustainable development goals across OIC countries.
