SESRIC participated in an Ad Hoc Meeting on Mpox, organized virtually by the Pan-European Network for Disease Control (NDC) Secretariat of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe on 22 August 2024.

The meeting focused on identifying needs, available support, and opportunities for collaboration among NDC members, following WHO’s declaration of Mpox outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on 14 August 2024.

During the meeting, representatives from the WHO European and African regions provided updates on the current situation of the Mpox in the regions. Network member countries also shared their country-specific perspectives and challenges in responding to both the existing and potential new Mpox virus outbreaks.

The Meeting also included strategic discussions on the regional response strategy, emphasizing the efforts to eliminate human-to-human transmission.
