Webinar on ‘Addressing Risks & Prevention Measures of Livestock Sector’

SESRIC, in collaboration with the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), organised a Webinar on “Addressing Risk & Prevention Measures of Livestock Sector” within the framework of Agriculture and Food Security Capacity Building (Agri-CaB) Programme. The webinar aimed to highlight the role of livestock in sustainable development, discuss challenges and potentials in OIC countries, address environmental impacts, and promote green policies for sustainable livestock development.

The webinar featured presentations by experts from SESRIC, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Sub-regional Office for Central Asia in Türkiye, National Institute of Agriculture of Tunisia (INAT) of Carthage University, and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development (MARDI). It was attended by 78 experts, executives and academics from relevant agencies/authorities and national institutions in 31 OIC countries.

The webinar covered the following topics:

  • Introduction to Agriculture and Food Security in the Modern World: Livestock Systems;
  • Status of Livestock Sector in OIC Member Countries;
  • Leveraging Animal Breeding and Genetics to Mitigate Risks and Enhance Resilience in the Livestock Sector in face of Climate Change and other Challenges;
  • Livestock and Environmental Impact: a Global Livestock Environment Assessment Model (GLEAM); and
  • Imposing Green Farming Policy and Regulatory Frameworks on the National Development of the Livestock Sector.
