SESRIC participated in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum on 16-18 April 2024 at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York. Throughout the Forum, SESRIC’s representative engaged in numerous breakout sessions and side events organised by the OIC countries and relevant institutions. Additionally, the representative held bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Forum with representatives from the Permanent Observer of the OIC to the UN, Permanent Mission of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the UN, UN Statistics Division (UNSD), UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC). These meetings aimed to explore potential collaborations focused on youth empowerment.

The ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024 provided a global platform for exchange of ideas among Member States and young leaders on solutions to challenges affecting youth wellbeing. It also served as a space for young people to share their vision and actions, and to advance youth solutions to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.

The 2024 Forum’s discussions were guided by the overall theme of the 2024 ECOSOC and HLPF on “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”.

Discussions focused on the SDGs under review at the 2024 HLPF, including no poverty (SDG 1), zero hunger (SDG 2), climate action (SDG 13), peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16), and partnerships for the goals (SDG 17).

The Youth Forum gathered young people to share their recommendations and innovative ideas in preparation for the Summit of the Future, to be held under the auspices of the General Assembly in September 2024.
