A group of 22 students from the Türkiye–Africa Community in Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli (AHBV) University visited SESRIC Headquarters on 7 March 2024. The purpose of the visit was to deepen their knowledge on the OIC and SESRIC.

The programme commenced with the welcoming message of HE Mrs Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK which underlined the significance of youth as a strength in the OIC countries group as the share of youth in the total population of OIC is the highest among the other country groups with around 51%. Accordingly, the message of HE SELÇUK stressed that the OIC pays special attention to the youth affairs on which SESRIC led the preparation of the “OIC Youth Strategy” in 2018. In this connection, the technical reports prepared and submitted by the Centre to the Islamic Conferences of Youth and Sports Ministers (ICYSM) analyses the State of Youth in OIC Member States and share the recommendations to provide guidance and tangible steps to increase the high-level commitment and intra-OIC cooperation of the Member countries to improving and enhancing the situation of youth across the Islamic world.

On his part, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yunus TURHAN, Director of the Mediterranean Basin and African Civilisations Application and Research Centre (AKAF), thanked HE SELÇUK for receiving the students group of the Türkiye–Africa Community in AHBVU as they would like to learn in more details about the history, structure, activities of both the OIC and SESRIC.

Following these remarks, a thorough presentation has been delivered by the SESRIC representatives. Through the exchange of questions and answers, the students had the opportunity to learn about the development of the structure of OIC since its establishment, activities of SESRIC covering statistics, research, training, and technical cooperation for the benefit of OIC member countries. The students also familiarised themselves about SESRIC’s Emerging Talents Capacity Building (SET-CAB) Programme which offers students a valuable prospect to work alongside experienced professionals from various fields, thereby enriching their skills and knowledge.
