SESRIC and TurkStat signed an MoU to enhance their collaboration to strengthen National Statistical Systems

SESRIC and Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) of the Republic of Türkiye signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their longstanding partnership in order to strengthen national statistical systems of the OIC member countries. The ceremony took place at the SESRIC Headquarters in Ankara, Türkiye.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK, Director General of SESRIC, and H.E. Dr. Erhan ÇETİNKAYA, President of TurkStat. The agreement underlines the historical ties and collaboration between the two institutions as the partnership stems from the foundation of SESRIC with the technical and logistical support of TurkStat back in 1978.

During the ceremony, H.E. SELÇUK emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting SESRIC's role in serving the OIC countries through its mandate areas of statistics, research, training, and technical cooperation. Appreciating the expertise of the TurkStat, she commended the support extended for enhancing the statistical capacities of the OIC member countries through the SESRIC Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. TurkStat has contributed so far in more than 100 activities when the total number of statistical activities of the Centre reached 500 by the end of February 2024.

The signed MoU provides a cooperation framework to encourage and leverage the partnership, utilizing the technical expertise and knowledge, and perspectives of both institutions. Its goal is to set a guided structure for joint projects to enhance capabilities, enabling member countries to tackle socioeconomic issues and capitalize on development prospects.
