SESRIC participated in the “Second Capacity Building Programme for the Users of the OIC Business Intelligence Centre (OBIC)”, which was organised by the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC) in collaboration with SESRIC, Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), and Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) on 26-28 September 2023 in Istanbul, Republic of Türkiye. The Programme had the objective to introduce the concept of OBIC to the private sector stakeholders and representatives from relevant institutions of the OIC countries.

In their opening speeches, Mr. Ousamma KAISSI, CEO of ICIEC, Dr. Walid ABDELWAHAB, Director of IsDB Regional Hub Türkiye, Mr. Mehmet Celalettin AKTAŞ, Head of Programs and Projects Department at the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC), and Ms. Fatma ÇINAR, Director at the Participation Banks Association of Türkiye (TKBB), emphasized the importance of trade and investment for development and the role of OBIC in promoting these objectives.

The three-day Capacity Building Programme featured a panel discussion on “How Digitalization and Business Intelligence can Support Trade and Investment” along with a number of technical training sessions for the participants. The panel discussion, joined by ICIEC, ICCIA, International Trade Centre (ITC), African Export-Import Bank (AfrExImBank) and moderated by SESRIC on 26 September 2023, highlighted the impacts of digitalization and business intelligence on trade and investment and its importance for the OIC region. During the programme, SESRIC also covered topics related to the collection and analysis of investment data followed by a presentation titled “Investment Outlook in the OIC Member Countries”. The Programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.

The OIC Business Intelligence Center (OBIC) is the initiative of the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC) and aims to provide accessible and affordable information and credit data on businesses across OIC Member Countries by creating a shared common platform. This is in addition to providing a cross-border credit registry and linked credit bureau services, compiling, and coordinating data in the process, and offering Advisory and Capacity-building services while efficiently adopting modern credit reporting systems. Relevant OIC institutions; namely, SESRIC, Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), and Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (ICCIA) are the partners of the ICIEC in the implementation of the OBIC initiative.

The First Capacity Building Programme for the Users of the OBIC was held on 20-22 March 2023 in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in partnership with the SESRIC, ICDT, ICCIA and the Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI).
