The 8th Annual Coordination Meeting of the COMCEC Focal Points was organised virtually by the COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO) on 24-25 August 2021. The meeting was attended by high-level representatives from OIC member countries who discussed various relevant agenda items over several technical sessions.

With regard to the agenda item 3 entitled “Contributions of the OIC Institutions to the Implementation of the COMCEC Ministerial Policy Recommendations (PRs): The Case of SESRIC”, H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General of SESRIC, delivered a presentation about SESRIC’s mandate areas, namely statistics, economic and social research and training, as well as SESRIC’s contribution to the implementation of resolutions and ministerial policy recommendations (PRs) of the COMCEC.

In his presentation, H.E. Mr. DABUR highlighted that the Centre plans its Annual Programme considering its potential contribution to the implementation of the resolutions and policy recommendations adopted by Ministerial Conferences and Standing Committees. He further provided some examples of activities conducted by SESRIC, which are specifically designed towards the implementation of COMCEC Ministerial Policy Recommendations according to the cooperation areas of COMCEC Strategy within the last two years.

Before he concludes his presentation, H.E. Mr. DABUR informed the participants that SESRIC submits project proposals to the Call for Proposals of the COMCEC Project Funding, and so far 7 project proposals submitted by SESRIC have been approved by CCO since the initiation of the project financing mechanism in 2013. These projects aimed to contribute to the realisation of the strategic objectives of the COMCEC Strategy in three cooperation areas of COMCEC: Tourism (3), Agriculture (1), and Poverty Alleviation (3).

The Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) was established by the Third Islamic Summit Conference held in Mecca/Taif, in 1981, to serve as the central forum for the OIC Member States to discuss international economic and commercial issues and consider new mechanisms to strengthen economic and commercial cooperation among them. COMCEC convenes annually at the ministerial level in Istanbul, Turkey, under the Chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Turkey.
