SESRIC Participated in the Global Expert Group on Refugee and Internally Displaced Persons Statistics (EGRIS) Virtual Meeting
Date: 19 June 2020
Venue: Virtual-Geneva, Switzerland

SESRIC participated in the Global Expert Group on Refugee and Internally Displaced Persons Statistics (EGRIS) Meeting held virtually on 19 June 2020 organised by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The meeting discussed the draft plan for EGRIS Phase III including the scope of work as outlined in ToR, structure of EGRIS and the proposed technical subgroups with a focus on dissemination and promotion, capacity building, and knowledge sharing and refinement of Compilers Manual.

EGRIS was established in accordance with the decision of the 47th Session of the UN Statistical Commission in 2016, against the backdrop of an ever-growing number of forcibly displaced persons worldwide as well as mixed practices on refugee and IDP statistics. Co-led by the Office of the UNHCR, Statistics Norway, and Eurostat, the primary mandate of EGRIS is to develop “recommendations on refugee statistics, as a reference guide for national and international work concerning asylum statistics”.

SESRIC became a member of the EGRIS on 4 September 2018. SESRIC indicated its membership interest to the EGRIS during the 7th Session of the OIC-StatCom organised on 2-3 May 2018 at SESRIC Headquarters in Ankara, Turkey. As member of EGRIS, SESRIC hosted the 3rd Global Meeting of the EGRIS, Meeting on Stateless Persons Statistics and 10th Regional Workshop of MED-HIMS at its Headquarters in Ankara, Turkey between 12 and 14 February 2019.
