Training Course on ‘Site Classification’
Date:
Venue: Kocaeli - Türkiye

SESRIC will organize in collaboration with IsDB, TIKA, TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center of Turkey, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) a training course on “Site Classification” on 30 March – 17 April 2020, in Kocaeli, Turkey. The training course will be conducted by experts from TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center of Turkey within the framework of the Reverse Linkage Project between Pakistan and Turkey on “Earthquake Seismological Research”.

In an effort to enhance Pakistan’s capacity in detecting and monitoring earthquakes and assessing their risks, the course will provide a great opportunity for introducing the practice of site classification and training the PMD staff on its uses with a view to producing reliable seismic risk assessment and land-use plans.

The Reverse Linkage Project aims to make significant improvements in Pakistan Meteorological Department’s capacity in terms of infrastructure, systems and human resources. It will introduce three new areas of knowledge, namely the global positioning system (GPS), site classification and establishing geographic information systems (GIS) database. It will also strengthen the PMD’s seismological research knowledge to produce timely information on earthquakes’ risks, undertake accurate assessment and better inform other institutions about those risks.
