In accordance with its 2014 Annual Work Plan, SESRIC organised the Training Course on ‘Manufacturing Statistics’ on 24-26 November 2014 at the premises of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. The course was provided by Mr. Nimer Hashem Gharbia, an expert of Department of Statistics Jordan, and was attended by 34 officials from the National Statistical Offices of GCC including Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE.
As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009); the scope of the ‘industrial sector’ is defined to cover mining and quarrying (section B) manufacturing (section C), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (section D); and water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (Section E). The scope of the economic activities has been broadened as compared to the international recommendations of 1983 because the activities of sewerage, waste collection and remediation have been added in line with the broadening of the scope of Section E in the ISIC Rev. 4. Manufacturing is normally defined as the activities classified under sections C, D and E.
