SESRIC Participated in the Sixth Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers (ICLM)

SESRIC participated in the 6th Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers (ICLM), held on 15–16 October 2025 in Doha, State of Qatar, under the theme “Local Experiences, Global Achievements: Success Stories in the Islamic World.” The delegation was led by H.E. Mrs. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK and included Dr. Ipek DEDEOGLU.

The Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM), preparatory to the Sixth Session of the ICLM, was held on 15 October 2025. The meeting was attended by the Senior Officials from OIC countries and representatives of the OIC General Secretariat, COMCEC Coordination Office, Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), OIC Labour Centre, Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), Women Development organization (WDO), Standards and Metrology, Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) and Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF). The Conference provided a platform for Member States to review the labour situation in the OIC region, share experiences and lessons learned, and deliberate on ways to strengthen collective action in addressing pressing labour market challenges.

After the opening ceremony of the Senior Officials Meeting, the OIC General Secretariat and SESRIC presented a review of the progress in the implementation of the Resolutions of the ICLM and the OIC Labour Market Strategy. The SESRIC presentation provided a detailed assessment of the progress made towards the implementation of the OIC Labour Market Strategy. Thematic areas of cooperation included encouraging participation to labour market, enhancing employability, protecting the workers’ safety and well-being, promoting labour productivity and reducing unemployment with 21 strategic goals and 162 actions. Dr. DEDEOGLU presented 2025 Edition of the OIC Labour Report, which provides a comprehensive assessment of the current state of labour market in OIC countries. The report also provides a comprehensive assessment of the rise in digitalization and automation as well as their impacts on labour markets. The report was officially launched during the Conference.

H.E. Mrs. SELÇUK presented the main activities of the Center and various capacity building programmes under Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building Programme (OSH-CaB), OIC Public Employment Services Network (OIC-PESNET) / Public Employment Services Capacity Building Programme (PES-CaB), OIC Vocational Education and Training Programme (OIC-VET), Poverty Alleviation Capacity Building Programme (PA-CaB), Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, and OIC Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Network (OIC-SMENET). Overall SESRIC reported to have carried out 49 activities in the Labour domain with participation of more than 3000 experts from all the Member States.  

The ICLM concluded with adoption a set of resolutions. The outcome documents can be accessed on the OIC website. The meeting also expressed its thanks to General Secretariat and relevant OIC institution including SESRIC and invites the relevant OIC institutions to continue to assist member countries, upon request, in advancing their efforts towards developing an environment that enables the effective generation of full and productive employment and decent work for all.

Building on the meeting outcomes, SESRIC remains committed to supporting member countries through data-driven research, statistical development, and capacity-building initiatives, and will continue to work closely with OIC and international partners to implement the Conference’s decisions and strengthen collective action in the labour market domain.
