H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Prof. Noura Zaid ALRSHOUD, Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of OIC, on the sidelines of the 52nd Session of the Permanent Finance Committee held on 31 July-03 August 2024 at OIC Headquarters in Jeddah.

The discussions centred around strengthening the existing cooperation linkages between the two OIC institutions. H.E. SELÇUK underlined that focusing on human rights is crucial at the OIC level due to its alignment with the Islamic values of justice, equality, and dignity for all. She emphasized SESRIC’s eagerness to collaborate on joint projects and activities, particularly in the areas linking human rights with sustainable development. H.E. SELÇUK also extended an invitation to welcome H.E. Prof ALRSHOUD at SESRIC Headquarters in Ankara.

On her part, H.E. ALRSHOUD praised the contributions made by SESRIC focusing on “Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence: Global Trends and Prospects for Development in OIC countries” in its 23rd Regular Session & Thematic Debate on ‘The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Human Rights: Challenges and Opportunities. Referring to the OIC-UN Cooperation Meeting held in Astana, she mentioned that both institutions can organize joint activities in the relevant fields. As some of the working areas of IPHRC intersect with those of SESRIC, she invited SESRIC to become a partner OIC institution in their 24th Regular Session & Thematic Debate on “Rights to Health” to be held in Jeddah in November 2024.

The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to collaborate closely on promoting and bolstering human rights across the OIC countries through joint activities and programmes.

The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC), established by the OIC in 2011, serves as an expert body with advisory capacity and is one of the principal organs of the OIC working independently in the area of human rights.
