SESRIC Participated in the 46th Session of the Islamic Commission for Economic and Social Affairs at OIC Headquarters

A SESRIC delegation, led by H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK, participated in the 46th Session of the Islamic Commission for Economic and Social Affairs (ICECS) held on 28-30 July 2024 at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah. The 46th Session of the ICECS was attended by the delegates from the OIC countries and representatives of the relevant OIC institutions, working in the domains of economy, education, health, science and technology, culture, social, family and youth affairs.

The Session was declared open by H.E. Amb. Hasni FAQIH, Head of Delegation of Mauritania, Adviser to the Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in his capacity as the Chairman of the 49th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM). The Session unanimously elected the Cameroon as Chair, Palestine, Djibouti, Azerbaijan as Vice-Chairs, and Mauritania as Rapporteur.

Following the inaugural address of H.E. Amb. Iya TIDJANI, Head of Delegation of Cameroon, H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim TAHA, OIC Secretary General delivered his opening speech, in which he enumerated various measures taken by the OIC and its institutions towards the implementation of the resolutions of the 49th CFM in social and economic domains. After the adoption of the Agenda and Work Programme, the Commission continued with its work the Report of the Secretary General and reports of the OIC subsidiary organs.

During the session, H.E. SELÇUK presented a comprehensive overview of SESRIC’s activities since the 45th Session of ICECS. Highlighting a period of considerable progress, she underlined that the Centre’s activities increased by 68% in statistics, 135% in training, and that 18 Memoranda of Understanding were signed since the last ICECS session. These accomplishments mark the ongoing commitment of SESRIC to advancing statistical, economic, and social development of the OIC countries.

Following the interventions made by the subsidiary organs, the 46th Session of ICECS examined the Draft Resolutions on Economic; Science and Technology, Education and Health, and Environment; Cultural, Social, Family and Youth Affairs, and made amendments and additions to them. The Commission also agreed to submit Draft Resolutions to the 50th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers for consideration.
