5th Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers

The 5th Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers (ICLM) was held on 21-23 November 2023 in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan under the theme of “Innovative Solutions and Digitalization of Labour and Employment Services in OIC Member States”. The Conference is hosted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MLSPP) and organized in collaboration with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The 3-day conference commenced on the 21st November with the Senior Officials Meeting. During the meeting, the Centre presented a progress report on the implementation of the OIC Labour Market Strategy, which was adopted by the 4th Session of the ICLM held in 2018. SESRIC also presented 2023 Edition of the OIC Labour Market Report, which analyses the current state of labour market in OIC countries and discusses some important aspects of labour market policy and developments. Based on the special theme of the report, SESRIC presented its findings on the implications of rising of digitalization and automation on labour markets. During the second day of the Senior Officials Meeting, the Centre also delivered a detailed presentation on its activities undertaken within the framework of OIC-OSHNET and OIC-PESNET as well as workforce capacity building programmes.

The Ministerial Session was held on the 23rd November. At the end of the Conference, a resolution was adopted, reflecting the decisions and outcomes reached at the Conference. This resolution will be submitted for the consideration of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM).

Besides, the Inaugural Session of the General Assembly of the OIC Labour Centre, which is a newly establish specialized OIC institutions with its headquarters in Baku, Azerbaijan, was held back-to-back to the 5th Session of ICLM. In this context, the Conference deliberated on how to support the nascent OIC institution during its early stage of development.
