Towards the Achievement of Prioritised Sustainable Development Goals in OIC Countries 2024
Date: 01 November 2024

SESRIC has published the 2024 edition of its report, “Towards the Achievement of Prioritised Sustainable Development Goals in OIC Countries”. First introduced to the annual ministerial sessions of COMCEC in 2019, the report provides an annual assessment of the OIC countries’ progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on eight prioritised SDGs (SDGs 1-5, 8-9, and 13). It also evaluates advancements related to the remaining nine SDGs.

This year’s report underscores both progress and challenges faced by OIC countries as they strive to meet the SDG targets by 2030. Remarkable improvements are noted in health outcomes and educational access, along with declining under-five mortality rates and substantial advances in educational parity between boys and girls across many OIC countries. Despite these achievements, critical gaps persist, particularly in promoting inclusive economic growth and expanding decent work opportunities. Economic growth rates in the least-developed OIC countries remain below the targeted 7%, and unemployment continues to be a pressing concern.

With almost half a decade remaining, the 2024 report aims to inspire bold initiatives and renewed commitment among OIC countries and development stakeholders to ensure the shared goal of a sustainable, resilient future that leaves no one behind.
