The 5th COMSATS-ISESCO-INIT International Workshop on 'Internet Security: Enhancing Information Exchange Safeguards' in collaboration with SESRIC

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO); the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS); the Inter Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT); the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT); and the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) jointly organised the 5th International Workshop on "Internet Security: Enhancing Information Exchange Safeguards" on 14-18 September 2015 in Ankara, Turkey.

The workshop commenced with an inaugural ceremony at Hotel Monec, Ankara, Republic of Turkey, on 14 September 2015 with the participation of high officials from the Embassies of OIC Member Countries located in Ankara, alongside with the President of TUBITAK and the representatives from the national and international organisations. The opening ceremony started with the welcome speech of Amb. Musa Kulaklıkaya, Director General of SESRIC, followed by a message of Mr. M. Atiq-ur-Rehman, Senior Program Officer INIT, Pakistan, on behalf of the President, INIT. The ceremony continued with the welcome messages delivered by Dr. Aicha Bammoun, Science Directorate, ISESCO, on behalf of the Director General of ISESCO and by Tajammul Hussain, Advisor, COMSATS, on behalf of Executive Director, COMSATS. The opening ceremony concluded by the inaugural address of Prof. A. Arif Ergin, President of TUBITAK.

The five-day event provided a platform for the participating researchers and professionals to learn about the latest advancements in the field of Internet security; the use of state-of-the-art technologies for protection of network and network accessible resources from different types of software attacks; and working out effective Internet/information security solutions for general public, governmental organizations and commercial enterprises through rigorous risk analyses and security management approaches. About 35 young researchers, practitioners, academicians, system administrators and programmers working in the field of Internet/information security, from Brunei Darussalam, Jordan, Nigeria, Maldives, Morocco, Tanzania, Pakistan, Palestine and Turkey, benefited from the proceedings of the workshop. Six resource persons imparted training to these participants during the technical sessions of the workshop from the Kind Saud University, CIIT, private sector banks, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and Cyber Security Institute of TUBITAK.
