Training Course on 'Education Statistics' in Benin

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the training course on 'Education Statistics' at the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Analysis (INSAE) in Cotonou, Republic of Benin on 27-29 January 2015. The course was conducted by Mr. Adjibou Oppa Barry, Statistician at the National Agency of Statistics and Demography (ANSD) of Senegal, with the participation of 23 officials of the INSAE.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009); education statistics - a statistical activity category under the Demographic and Social Statistics domain – deal with educational participation, illiteracy, educational institutions and systems, human and financial resources invested in education, lifelong learning, vocational training and adult learning, impact of education, assessments of student performance, etc.

The training course on 'Education Statistics' included practical case studies and focused on the following topics:

  • Sources of education statistics on education
  • Structure of the education system and sectoral nomenclatures used
  • Main education indicators: Calculation and interpretation
  • Financing education: Educational costs and expenses
  • Analysis of the school system and educational planning
