Regional Workshop on 'Integrating a Gender Perspective in the Production of Statistics'
Date: 01-04 December 2014
Venue: Amman - Jordan

The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) in partnership with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), United Nations Economic Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) and Jordan Department of Statistics and within the framework of the Global Gender Statistics Programme, organized the Regional Workshop on 'Integrating a Gender Perspective in the Production of Statistics' for Arabic-speaking countries in Amman, Jordan on 1-4 December 2014.

The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of national statistical offices on the production, analysis and use of gender statistics through the integration of a gender perspective into the national statistical systems, with a special focus on population censuses as a source of gender statistics. The workshop also fostered exchange of national experiences among participating countries.

The workshop focused on the use of the census data collected by countries during the 2010 census round. Censuses provide a rich source of information for a snapshot of the situation of women and men in countries, not only because of the variety of topics (education, economic activity, literacy, disability) that a census covers, but also because it allows disaggregation for small areas and population groups.

12 Arabic-speaking countries in Western Asia participated in the workshop.
