The First Steering Committee Meeting for the Implementation of the OIC Framework for Cooperation on Labour, Employment and Social Protection

The First Steering Committee Meeting for the Implementation of the OIC Framework for Cooperation on Labour, Employment and Social Protection was held in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, on 17-18 June 2014. Representatives from 8 OIC member countries attended the meeting; namely, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Indonesia, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The OIC General Secretariat, Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and SESRIC also attended the meeting. SESRIC was represented by Dr. Kenan Bagci, Senior Researcher, at the meeting.

The Meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Salim Muslumov, Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In his welcome speech as Chairman of the 2nd Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers (ICLM), H.E. Mr. Salim Muslimov, Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan, underscored the timely implementation of the OIC Framework for Cooperation on Labour, Employment and Social Protection.

Ambassador Hameed A. Opeloyeru, Assistant Secretary General of the OIC for Economic Affairs also welcomed the participants on behalf of H.E. Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani, the OIC Secretary General and invited the Meeting to consider practical measures for the actualization of the OIC Framework for Cooperation on Labour, Employment and Social Protection including the timely implementation of the Executive Programme. The Ambassadors of the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Azerbaijan and head of Social Policy Committee of Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan addressed to the Opening Session and underscored the importance of the various items on its agenda.

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the Draft Executive Programme, which was compiled based on inputs from Member States, and approved the document for implementation. The Committee also invited all OIC Member States and relevant OIC institutions to actively participate in the identified programmes and projects on the Executive Programme and called on OIC General Secretariat to follow-up the implementation of the Executive Programme.
