SESRIC received a high-level delegation from the General Secretariat for Islamic Arabic Education in The Gambia (AL-AMAANAH) at its headquarters in Ankara on 26 October 2026. The visit took place as part of AL-AMAANAH’s strategic education partnership mission to Türkiye and Egypt. Through this mission, AL-AMAANAH seeks international support for the modernisation and diversification of Madrassah education in The Gambia.

The delegation was led by Sheikh Issa Foday Dabo, Secretary-General of AL-AMAANAH and President of the Supreme Islamic Council of The Gambia. It also included Dr. Burama L. J. Jammeh, Technical Adviser to AL-AMAANAH, and Dr. Bakary Jaité, Director of the AMAANAH Training Institute. They were accompanied by Mr. Abass Darboe, Deputy Ambassador, and Mr. Foday Gassama, Protocol and Welfare Officer, of the Embassy of the Republic of The Gambia in Ankara.

During the visit, SESRIC delivered a presentation on the history and structure of the OIC, as well as the mandate, departments, and ongoing capacity-building and technical cooperation initiatives of SESRIC. The delegation then presented the objectives of its mission on behalf of The Gambia’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and AL-AMAANAH, together with an overview of the current state of Madrassah education in The Gambia and the Government’s priorities for its modernisation and diversification.

The two sides exchanged views on possible areas of cooperation in support of The Gambia’s efforts to modernise and diversify Madrassah education. These included technical and vocational education and training, teacher and institutional capacity development, and knowledge and experience sharing among OIC Member Countries. Both sides expressed their willingness to further explore cooperation through SESRIC’s relevant capacity-building programmes and South-South cooperation frameworks.
