SESRIC participated in the 26th Meeting of the COMCEC Financial Cooperation Working Group, held on 21-22 September 2026 in Ankara. The “Potential of Crowdfunding for Economic Development in the OIC Member Countries” was the focus theme of the 26th Meeting.
The meeting commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by opening remarks and a briefing delivered by COMCEC on the “Financial Outlook of the OIC Member Countries”. Discussions then continued with the presentation of a research report on the meeting’s theme, which provided a framework for subsequent deliberations. Participants examined lessons learnt from selected case studies in the Report to identify viable policy options and approaches for leveraging crowdfunding to support economic development in OIC Member Countries.
The sessions continued with the sharing of national experiences through presentations delivered by Indonesia, Türkiye, Pakistan and the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI). Following the presentations and discussions on the first day, the COMCEC Coordination Office introduced the role of COMCEC Project Support Programs and their potential utilization in implementing the recommendations of the Meeting.
On the second day, participants engaged in a policy debate aimed at formulating recommendations for consideration at the upcoming 42nd COMCEC Ministerial Session. Drawing on the findings of the research report and the discussions, key strategic recommendations included developing supportive crowdfunding ecosystems, strengthening regulatory and supervisory frameworks, promoting Islamic crowdfunding and facilitating intra-OIC investment and donations through crowdfunding.
The Financial Cooperation Working Group is a vital platform under the COMCEC Strategy for addressing shared development challenges through knowledge exchange, experience sharing and policy coordination among OIC Member Countries.
