SESRIC organised a Training Course on “Building a Fundamental Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Database” on 5–6 October 2026 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, within the framework of the SESRIC Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building (OSH-CaB) Programme and the ASEAN–OSHNET Work Plan 2026–2030.
The training course was organised in collaboration with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) of Malaysia for the benefit of experts from the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) of Brunei Darussalam. The training was delivered by an expert from NIOSH Malaysia.
The two-day training course aimed to strengthen participants’ capacities in developing, managing and analysing OSH data and databases, with a particular focus on supporting data-driven decision-making and evidence-based approaches to workplace safety management. It also provided participants with practical knowledge on establishing a unified framework for OSH data collection, improving data management and quality assurance, and aligning national OSH statistics with international standards.

The course also introduced the concept of a “single source of truth” for OSH data and highlighted the importance of transparency, accountability and reliable data in monitoring OSH performance and supporting informed policy decisions.
SESRIC launched the Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building (OSH-CaB) Programme in 2010 to support the efforts of OIC Member Countries in improving workplace safety and health and reducing occupational risks of injury and disease.
