SESRIC Contributed to the Doha Briefing on 'Family Wellbeing: A Cornerstone in Social Development' during CSocD64

SESRIC contributed to the side event titled Doha Briefing on “Family Wellbeing: A Cornerstone in Social Development”, held on 2 February 2026 on the margins of the 64th Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD64) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Organised by the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the UN in partnerships with the Ministry of Social Development and the Family (MSDF) of Qatar, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Doha International Family Institute, the side event aimed to discuss family wellbeing across Muslim countries and explore policy and programme development relating to family wellbeing indexes underscoring the progress made and challenges faced by families to promote social progress. The side-event also provided a brief on the upcoming international conference on “Family Wellbeing” to be organised in Doha, Qatar in 2026.

SESRIC representative delivered remarks contributing to the discussions and highlighting the Centre’s extensive work in the social domain with particular emphasis on its endeavours on matters related to family empowerment, including the organisation of over 40 related capacity building activities for the benefit of nearly 2,200 participants, as well as the dedicated chapters on social development in the Centre’s statistical publications. The remarks also underscored the importance given to family welfare in numerous international and OIC strategic documents, including the Doha Political Declaration, UN 2030 Agenda, OIC Charter, OIC-2025 Programme of Action, and the OIC Strategy for the Empowerment of the Marriage and Family Institution 2020-2025, among others, which calls for stronger collaborations among governments, international organisations and civil society to achieve the envisioned goals and objectives.
