SESRIC Organised a Side Event on “Strengthening Agricultural Census Systems in OIC Countries: Lessons Learned and Future Directions” in the Margins of the 57th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission

Date: 05 March 2026
Venue: New York, USA

In the margins of the 57th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC), which was held in New York City from 3 to 6 March 2026, Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), in collaboration with the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), organised a side event titled “Strengthening Agricultural Census Systems in OIC Countries: Lessons Learned and Future Directions” on 5 March 2026 (13:15–14:30, EST). The side event was hosted at the Turkish House (Türkevi Center) / Turkish Mission in New York.

The side event brought together senior officials and technical experts to exchange practical lessons from recent agricultural census experiences and to discuss forward-looking priorities for strengthening agricultural census systems in OIC countries, including the effective use of census results for policy-relevant outputs supporting food security, rural development, and sustainable agriculture.

The organisation of this side event was in line with the relevant resolution adopted by the 14th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom), which requested SESRIC to continue organising thematic side events on the margins of future sessions of the United Nations Statistical Commission, building on the successful thematic side event convened at the Turkish House (Türkevi Centre) in March 2025.
