Date: 12 January 2026
Venue: Ankara - Türkiye

SESRIC attended the Roundtable Discussion on the Current Crisis in Sudan, hosted by the Africa Foundation on 12 January 2026.

The meeting aimed to raise awareness of the current situation in Sudan and to understand all aspects of the crisis caused by the ongoing conflict. The discussion also covered the Peace Initiative proposed by the Government of Sudan to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), which establishes a multidimensional framework for national stabilisation to resolve the current existential crisis. This initiative prioritises a comprehensive ceasefire and the structured withdrawal, assembly, and disarmament of paramilitary forces, under joint monitoring by the United Nations, the African Union, and the League of Arab States. The initiative integrates critical confidence-building measures, including the facilitated return of displaced populations, transitional justice for war-affected areas, and targeted socio-economic reconstruction in the affected regions.

In his address, H.E. Nadir Yousif ELTAYEB, Ambassador of Republic of Sudan in Ankara, expressed gratitude for the invaluable support of select OIC countries, notably Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, in their efforts to restore peace and stability in Sudan. He also expressed concern about the threats to peace and security of Sudan and the wider region. The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Hissein Brahim TAHA, welcomed the peace initiative presented by the Prime Minister of the Transitional Government of the Republic of Sudan to the UN Security Council on 22 December 2025.
