Date: 23 September 2025
Venue: Virtual-SESRIC, Ankara - Türkiye

SESRIC participated in the 19th Meeting of the OIC Exchanges Forum (OICEF), held on 23 September 2025. The Forum convened representatives of stock exchanges, central depositories, and capital market authorities from OIC countries, alongside participants from global financial market standard-setters; namely, the International Capital Market Association (ICMA), International Securities Lending Association (ISLA), and International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA). The meeting also included firms from the sector, such as brokers, clearing houses and lawyers.

The meeting began with an overview of the activities and recent developments within the OIC Exchanges Forum. Participants were briefed on the progress of two dedicated task forces: the Task Force on Precious Metals, which continues to explore mechanisms for enhancing gold-based financial instruments across OIC markets; and the Task Force on Indices, which is working toward the development of joint OIC indices to support visibility and benchmarking of member exchanges. The Forum also presented its latest statistical report, offering updated data and comparative insights on the performance and structure of OIC capital markets.

The panel titled “Building a Legal Framework for Islamic Capital Markets” reaffirmed the importance of establishing coherent legal foundations for Islamic capital markets, with expert input from ICMA, ISLA, ISDA, and respected firms from the sector. The last session, titled “Best Practice Sharing – Recent Developments in OIC Exchanges,” featured presentations from member stock exchanges, including Bursa Malaysia, Indonesia Stock Exchange, Pakistan Stock Exchange, and Baku Stock Exchange. Representatives shared recent initiatives and operational improvements.

Established in 2005, the OIC Exchanges Forum serves as a collaborative platform for capital market institutions of OIC Member Countries. Hosted by Borsa İstanbul, the Forum aims to enhance cooperation, share best practices, and develop joint projects that contribute to the growth and integration of OIC capital markets. Its annual meetings provide a venue for dialogue on emerging trends, regulatory developments, and strategic priorities in Islamic finance and financial market modernization.
