Training Course on ‘Developing Public Transport in OIC Megacities’

Within the framework of its Transportation Capacity Building Programme (Transport-CaB), SESRIC will organise an online Training Course on “Developing Public Transport in OIC Megacities” on 29-30 September 2025. The training will be organised in collaboration with the Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS) of the Republic of Indonesia, the United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia Section (UCLG-MEWA), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

The event will provide national representatives of OIC countries a comprehensive understanding of the critical factors shaping public transport development in OIC megacities, including urban infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation. It will also explore best practices and strategies for designing effective and integrated public transport systems that reduce congestion, lower emissions, and improve mobility and connectivity of urban residents.

The training course will cover the following topics on:

  • Overview on Developing Public Transportation in the Middle East and West Asia (MEVA) Region;
  • National Planning and Development of Public Transport System in Megacities;
  • Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning;
  • Key Challenges in Financing Urban Mobility, Constraints to Attract Private Sector Investments and Innovative Solutions; and
  • Good Practices of Local Municipalities in Connecting Cities and Country’s Perspective on the National Urbanization Efforts for Public Transport Development from Palestine, Indonesia and Jordan.

SESRIC launched the Transportation Capacity Building Programme (Transport-CaB) in 2021 with the aim of supporting and contributing to the efforts of the OIC countries towards enhancing the institutional and human capacities of their national institutions in the field of transportation.
