Statistical Training Course on ‘SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) Indicators’

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Statistical Training Course on “SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) Indicators” on 2-3 September 2025. The course gathered 78 experts from National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and relevant institutions of 26 OIC Member Countries.

The training was delivered by Ms. Suraya Hani Mohamad Ashi, Expert at the Manpower and Social Statistics Division, and Mr. Hazman Abu Yazid, Assistant Director at the Agriculture and Environment Statistics Division of the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

The course covered the following topics:

  • The statistical framework for monitoring the SDGs in Malaysia, including institutional arrangements, data sources, and coordination mechanisms;
  • Malaysia’s experience in the collection, compilation, and reporting of SDG 6 indicators, with a focus on data availability, methodologies, and challenges;
  • Perspectives of OIC institutions and international organisations on SDG 6 indicators, including global and regional monitoring frameworks;
  • Exchange of experiences and best practices among participating OIC Member Countries in monitoring and reporting SDG 6 indicators.
In addition, and within the framework of the UN-OIC Cooperation, Ms. Maggie Kossida, Global Monitoring Specialist at UN-Water, contributed to the course by presenting the global status of SDG 6 indicators and highlighting the support provided by UN-Water for monitoring and reporting processes.
