Date: 13-17 July 2025
Venue: Jeddah - Saudi Arabia

SESRIC participated in the 25th Regular Session of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC), held on 13 July 2025 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The session opened with remarks from H.E. Prof. Noura Zaid Mubarak Al RSHOUD, Executive Director of OIC-IPHRC; H.E. Dr. Haci Ali ACIKGUL, Chairperson of OIC-IPHRC; and H.E. Hissein Brahim TAHA, Secretary General of the OIC. The ceremony included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, the honoring of Commission Members completing their mandate, and a thematic debate on “Right to Water: Human Rights Perspective.”

Alongside the participants from the OIC-IPHRC Member States, the event welcomed specialised and subject matter experts from relevant international organisations and representatives of the OIC countries, the Observer States, and their National Human Rights Institutions.

During the thematic debate, Dr. Davron ISHNAZAROV, researcher at SESRIC, delivered an insightful and data-driven presentation on the state of water in OIC countries. He provided an overview of the state of renewable water resources, highlighting pressing challenges such as climate change and inefficiency of water use in OIC countries. Recognising the large disparities in the availability and access to freshwater resources, water-related infrastructure, and efficiency in water use across member countries, the presentation emphasised the role of the OIC Water Vision and SESRIC’s ongoing contributions through statistics, research, and capacity-building programmes to address these gaps.
