Date: 01 July 2025
Venue: Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

SESRIC participated in the Malaysian Research Initiative for National Agenda (MaRINA 3.0) Workshop on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Research Focus Area for 2026–2030. The workshop was organised by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) of Malaysia on 1 July 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. The main objective of the workshop was to bring together national and international stakeholders to exchange knowledge and collaboratively chart the future direction of OSH research.

During the session titled “Global Trends and Priorities in OSH”, representatives from SESRIC, International Labour Organisation (ILO), and the University of South Australia delivered comprehensive presentations.

The SESRIC presentation delivered by Mrs. Alia Sharify ORTAQ, Technical Cooperation Officer, covered the “Trends and Priorities in OSH Research in OIC Member Countries”. The presentation highlighted the common trends across OIC countries and key OSH research needs, focusing on regional priorities in Arab, African, and Asian OIC Member Countries.

The presentation also underscored the significance of the OIC Occupational Safety and Health Network (OIC-OSHNET), a platform established to bring about closer cooperation among OSH institutions of the OIC countries through sharing knowledge, experience, and best practices. The importance of fostering collaborative relations and promoting knowledge exchange between OIC-OSHNET, ASEAN-OSHNET, and other relevant OSH stakeholders to improve working conditions and ensure the safety and well-being of the workforce across regions was also emphasized in the presentation.

The workshop also featured technical group working sessions, where participants were divided into four groups. International experts and OSH researchers jointly worked on proposing research themes for the upcoming period of 2026–2030.

This workshop served as the foundation for the development of the Malaysian Research Initiative for National Agenda (MaRINA 3.0), which will be officially presented during the forum held in conjunction with the ASEAN Safety and Health Workers Summit 2025 (ASEAN OSH Summit 2025), scheduled for 4–5 August 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. The Summit is being organised by NIOSH in line with Malaysia’s role as the Chair of ASEAN 2025.
