SESRIC Welcomed a Delegation from the the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) of the Republic of Indonesia to Explore Collaboration

SESRIC welcomed a delegation from the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) of the Republic of Indonesia to explore potential areas of collaboration on Disaster Risk Management (DRM) across OIC countries.

During the meeting, SESRIC provided an overview of its mandate, organizational structure, and ongoing efforts in delivering capacity-building programmes and technical cooperation initiatives in the field of Disaster Risk Management. The Centre highlighted its commitment to enhancing institutional capacities of member countries through South-South cooperation, knowledge-sharing platforms, and specialized training activities.

The BNPB representatives emphasized the increasing challenges posed by natural disasters, climate change, and environmental risks, and underscored the urgent need for coordinated action and enhanced collaboration among OIC countries to strengthen preparedness, response, and resilience capacities. In this regard, both sides discussed potential areas for joint initiatives and explored the possibility of establishing a Disaster Risk Management Intra-OIC Network to facilitate cooperation, knowledge exchange, and collective efforts among disaster management authorities in member countries.

The BNPB representatives shared their institutional experience in community-based disaster preparedness and the integration of climate risk data into national planning. Furthermore, the meeting explored the possibility of launching online and in-person capacity building activities. The delegation also expressed interest in contributing to SESRIC’s ongoing initiatives and projects on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their willingness to foster institutional ties and expanding cooperation to address shared disaster-related challenges in the OIC region.
