SESRIC Participated in the Regional Training of Trainers on the Gender Statistics Training Curriculum for SDGs Monitoring

SESRIC participated in the Regional Training of Trainers (ToT) on the Gender Statistics Training Curriculum for Monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), organised by the UN Women Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality (UN Women CoE) and the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) on 14 - 17 October 2024 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The training aimed to build a pool of skilled trainers in the Asia-Pacific subregion, equipping them with the essential knowledge and expertise to plan, coordinate, and deliver training in gender statistics, using the Gender Statistics Training Curriculum as a key resource.

The training combined technical content with practical application, focusing on enhancing participant’s experiences in designing and delivering training on gender statistics. The training included lectures, presentations, discussion sessions,and practical exercises.

The ToT covered the following curriculum:

  • Overview of Gender Statistics Training Curriculum
  • Identifiying gender data for SDG monitoring
  • Gender data literacy and avoiding common mistakes
  • Calculating gender statistics for SDG monitoring
  • Adjusting Training Curriculum delivery to different audiences
  • Finding the right data and conducting basic analysis
  • Interpreting data tables and Introduction to non-conventional data sources.
  • Using Gender data for policymaking & User-Producer Dialogue
  • Methods for gender data collection and estimation
  • Analyzing microdata with a gender perspective
  • Communicating Gender Data
  • Evaluation tools in the Training Curriculum

SESRIC became a formal member of the Subgroup on Gender Statistics Training of the Network for the Coordination of Statistical Training in Asia and the Pacific, coordinated by the UN Women (the secretariat of the Subgroup) and the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) (the secretariat of the Network) on 15 November 2018. The main objective of the Subgroup is to ensure data users and producers in Asia and the Pacific have the necessary skills to produce, disseminate and use gender statistics widely, including for SDG monitoring.
