SESRIC Participated in the Closing Ceremony and Panel of the Islamic Economy Youth Forum 2024

SESRIC participated in the Closing Ceremony and Panel of the Islamic Economy Youth Forum 2024 (IEYF 2024), organised by OIC Youth Indonesia together with Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) and the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), on 1 November 2024 through a video conferencing platform. Dr. Atilla KARAMAN, Director, represented the Centre thereat.

The Closing Ceremony of the IEYF commenced with the opening remarks of Ms. Astrid Nadya RIZQITA, President of OIC Youth Indonesia; Dr. Mohammad HAZIMEH, Director of Education and Training Department at ICYF; HE Amb. Tarig Ali BAKHEET; OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs (video message); and Dr. Dadang MULJAWAN, Executive Director of Sharia Economy and Finance Department at Bank Indonesia. Following the Opening Remarks, an awarding ceremony took place for the Best Participant, Most Outstanding Participant, Honourable Mentions, and Best Essay.

During the Closing Ceremony of the IEYF 2024, a panel session was also held with the participation of panellists from ICYF, SESRIC, Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Regional Hub in Indonesia, Bank Indonesia, and Malaysian Youth Council. During the panel session, SESRIC mentioned how Islamic finance promoted social justice and economic equity, and its importance for sustainable growth by giving successful case studies from Indonesia, Malaysia, Türkiye, and GCC countries that have integrated Islamic Finance into their economic frameworks. Being the statistical arm of the OIC, SESRIC also hosts the OIC Statistics (OICStat) Database with over 1,850 indicators under 27 categories. The Islamic Banking and Finance category of the OICStat Database currently includes over 20 indicators from around 25 OIC Member Countries.

ISEF is part of the yearly agenda of the Islamic economy and finance sector in Indonesia that facilitates a diverse range of initiatives and activities to support the development of the Islamic economy and finance at both the domestic and international level. The IEYF 2024 consisted of two sub events; the Experience Sharing Session (14 October – 26 October), a webinar style online event where the participants have the opportunity to hear the experiences and perspectives from speakers from global Islamic economy stakeholders, and the Youth Forum (28 October - 1 November), an online forum in English that closely follows MOIC rules where students aged 16-30 from all around the world, selected through an essay selection process, had the opportunity to discuss and share their thoughts regarding the future of the Islamic economy.
