SESRIC Convenes a Meeting with the Council of Competition and Antitrust of Libya to Explore Cooperation

SESRIC held a coordinating meeting with the recently established Council of Competition and Antitrust of the State of Libya to discuss potential areas of cooperation between the two institutions.

During the meeting, SESRIC provided an overview of its work in the areas of training, statistics and research. The Council’s representatives expressed their interest in enhancing cooperation with SESRIC, stressing their desire to benefit from SESRIC’s capacity-building programmes, in particular, the Competition Authorities Capacity Building Programme (CA-CaB). They also introduced their areas of work and objectives, such as regulating the local market to promote sustainable competition and combat all forms of monopolistic practices, with the aim of building a fair and stimulating economic environment.

The Council of Competition and Antitrust of the State of Libya was activated by Law No. 7 2023 under The Libyan House of Representatives. It serves as the government's body that works on developing policies that encourage fair competition, combat monopolies, and regulate free and legitimate competition in economic relations in Libya, in accordance with the principles of transparency and fairness, by regulating the competitive situation in the markets and monitoring monopoly and illegal commercial practices.
