Training on ‘The Development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the Agricultural Sector of the OIC Countries’

SESRIC participated in the Training on “The Development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the Agricultural Sector of the OIC Countries”, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Gambia in collaboration with and support of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) on 29 July – 1 August 2024 in Banjul, the Gambia.

The training aimed to identify and measure critical success factors of the agriculture sector through the development of KPIs to measure performance against set policy targets. The programme commenced with the opening statements from H.E. Amb. F. Türker OBA, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to the Gambia and H.E. Dr. Demba SABALLY, Minister of Agriculture of the Gambia. The Meeting was attended by the representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Environment, Climate Change & Natural Resources of the Gambia, the Gambia Bureau of Statistics (GBoS) as well as representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye. Mr. Abdulhamit ÖZTÜRK, Senior Statistics Officer at the Statistics and Information Department and Mr. Muzamil EDEMA, Researcher at Economic and Social Research Department of SESRIC represented the Centre thereat.

During the capacity building programme, Prof. Michael Akindele OJO, Professor of Agricultural Economics, Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria, provided lectures on the following themes including discussions and hands-on exercises;

  • Identifying critical success factors in the agriculture sector
  • Quantifying the critical factors
  • Developing performance indicators
  • Designing and development of questionnaires
  • Data collection processes
  • Analyzing the KPIs to measure performance against set targets.
