SESRIC and UNIDO Türkiye Held Bilateral Meeting to Explore Areas of Cooperation

H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Süleyman YILMAZ, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Türkiye Country Representative and Director of UNIDO Center for Regional Cooperation (UCRC). The discussions focused on exploring potential areas of cooperation between SESRIC and UNIDO Türkiye with a particular focus on fostering sustainable industrial development within the OIC region.

During the meeting, H.E. SELÇUK highlighted the efforts of SESRIC in furthering socio-economic development in the OIC countries within its mandated areas. She mentioned that SESRIC implements capacity-building and training activities under 21 different sector-specific programs through training courses, webinars, study visits, and workshops. Furthermore, H.E. SELÇUK highlighted possible areas of collaboration between SESRIC and UNIDO Türkiye, including South-South Cooperation (SSC), sustainable industrial development, green economy, entrepreneurship, digital transformation and more.

While thanking H.E. SELÇUK for her courtesy call, H.E. YILMAZ emphasized that UNIDO Field Office in Türkiye was established in 1967 and has become UCRC in 2000. UCRC currently focuses on cluster development, eco efficiency-cleaner production, energy efficiency in industry, clean technology innovation acceleration program, implementation of international environmental agreements. H.E. YILMAZ went on to mention that UCRC also organizes training programs on food processing, textile-leather laboratories, nanotechnology, investment promotion annually for experts participating mostly from Central Asia, Middle East and Africa.

The meeting concluded with both sides underscoring possible collaboration on knowledge exchange and capacity building between SESRIC and UNIDO Türkiye.
