Training Course on ‘Climate Change Adaptation Planning and Environmental Management’

Within the framework of Environment Capacity Building Programme (Environment-CaB), SESRIC organised a Training Course on “Climate Change Adaptation Planning and Environmental Management” on 5-6 March 2024 through an online video conferencing platform for the benefit of 48 experts and executives from the relevant Ministries and National Institutions in charge of climate change in 24 OIC Countries.

The training course was provided by competent experts from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change (MEUCC) of the Republic of Türkiye and the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA).

The following topics were covered during the two days of the training:

  • Participatory Planning and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Challenges in Climate Adaptation Planning and Implementation
  • Waste Management
  • Air Quality Management
  • Wastewater Management
  • FAO Strategy and initiatives on Climate Change (2022-2031)

On the first day of the training, Dr. Ahmed KHALIL, Projects’ Management, Coordinator, Living Marine Resources and Climate Change, PERSGA, delivered a presentation on understanding Climate Change and the associated concepts. The next on the programme was a brief on climate change adaptation strategies and the measures in Türkiye delivered by Ms. Emine ÇELEBIOĞLU, Climate Change Expert, MEUCC of Türkiye.

The second day included a comprehensive presentation from Ms. Müberra Betül YALÇIN, Climate Change Adaptation Expert at MEUCC, providing detailed information on participatory planning process and stakeholder engagement. Following Ms. YALÇIN’s presentation, Ms. Ece DİNSEL, Waste Management Expert, MEUCC, presented an overview on circular economy and climate change. Afterwards, Ms. Ece SARAOĞLU, Environment and Urbanisation Expert from MEUCC briefed the participants on Wastewater Management in Türkiye.

The training was concluded with a presentation on the vision of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) regarding climate resilient agriculture to transform agrifood systems. This was delivered by Dr. Erda CELER, Junior Technical Officer, FAO, Türkiye.

The Environment Capacity Building Programme (Environment-CaB) was developed by SESRIC in 2014 in order to promote sustainable production and consumption patterns and to protect and preserve the environment in the OIC Member Countries. Within this framework, the Centre organises capacity-building activities for the benefit of the staff of the Ministries of Environment, Ministries of Energy and other relevant national institutions in the OIC Member Countries by using various modalities such as training courses, training workshops, and study visits.
