SESRIC held a Virtual Coordination Meeting with the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS)
Date: 19 February 2024
Venue: Virtual-SESRIC, Ankara - Türkiye

SESRIC held a virtual coordination meeting with the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) on 19 February 2024 to discuss the implementation of the Agreed Joint Activities between the two institutions, in line with the Matrix of the 7th Annual Coordination of the OIC Institutions (ACMOI), which was held on 17-18 January 2024 in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Both teams discussed ways and means of organising the planned activities for the benefit of the OIC member countries in the most effective manner while leveraging the expertise of SESRIC and IOFS. The discussions increased the synergies between the two sister institutions and defined the way forward in conducting fruitful joint activities and initiatives towards increasing collaborations among OIC institutions.

The IOFS is a specialised institution of the OIC whose aim is to provide expertise and technical know-how to member states on various aspects of sustainable agriculture, rural development, food security, and biotechnology; assess and monitor the state of food security in member states; coordinate, formulate and implement common agricultural policies, as well as address problems posed by desertification, deforestation, erosion, and salinity; and eventually mobilize and manage financial and agricultural resources to enhance food security.
