Training Course on 'SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) Indicators'

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Training Course on “SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) Indicators” with the participation of 97 experts from National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and Ministries responsible for Water of 23 OIC countries on 12-13 February 2024 through an online video conferencing platform.

Mr. Md. Alamgir HOSSEN, Deputy Director at the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), delivered the training, covering the following topics:

  • Introduction to SDG 6
  • Overview of SDG 6 Indicators
  • SDG 6 Indicators of Bangladesh
  • Road map for unavailable SDG6 Indicators

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Zainal Abidin Sanusi, Director of Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), and Prof. Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technical Education (FSTE) and Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) delivered presentations on the research activities and efforts of their respective universities in the field of SDG 6. This collaboration was ensured in line with the agreed activities adopted during the 7th Session of the Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions (ACMOI) held in January 2024 in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, within the framework of the UN-OIC Cooperation, Mr. William Reidhead, Global Monitoring Officer at UN-Water contributed to the training course by presenting the work of the UN-Water Integrated Monitoring Initiative to introduce collaboration opportunities for OIC member countries.
