Within the framework of the Vocational Education and Training Programme for the Member Countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-VET) and in line with the OIC-TVET Strategic Roadmap 2020-2025, SESRIC organized a Training Workshop on “Integrating Formal and Informal TVET Education in OIC-Africa French-Speaking Member Countries” on 27-28 December 2023 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training workshop was provided by competent experts from the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills of the Kingdom of Morocco for the benefit of 82 experts and executives from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authorities and relevant national institutions of 14 OIC African French-speaking Member Countries.

The main objective of the training workshop was to provide a deeper understanding of the intricate process of integrating formal and informal TVET education and its substantial advantages for learners, employers, and economies. The training also focused on the critical role of collaboration between the formal TVET institutions, informal learning providers, and policymakers in order to develop effective and equitable strategies for integrating formal and informal learning for a robust TVET system.

The two-day training covered the following topics:

• Vocational Education System and Effective Strategies for Integrating Formal and Informal TVET Education
• Apprenticeship Training and Informal TVET Education
• Advanced Methodologies for Sectoral Skill Analysis in TVET: A Skills-Based Approach

The training workshop also included presentations from representatives of the relevant international organizations, namely the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Islamic World Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

As an initiative of SESRIC, the Vocational Education and Training Programme for the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-VET) was launched in 2009 at the COMCEC Economic Summit in Istanbul, Türkiye. The main aim of the programme is to enhance the quality of TVET systems in the OIC Member Countries, as well as to assist them in their efforts to overcome challenges and constraints in the TVET sector. Within the framework of the OIC-VET Programme and in line with its Strategic Roadmap for the years 2020-2025, SESRIC, in its capacity as the Executing OIC Organ of the Programme, initiates and implements various capacity-building training activities by facilitating the transfer and exchange of know-how, knowledge and experience among the national TVET institutions in the OIC Member Countries. These activities cover a diverse range of topics, including entrepreneurship skills development, and embrace a blended model of delivery approach by combining face-to-face and virtual for increased efficiency and flexibility.
