Within the framework of the Vocational Education and Training Programme for the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-VET) and in line with the OIC-TVET Strategic Roadmap 2020-2025, SESRIC organized a Training Workshop on “Fostering Entrepreneurial Activities and Startup Ecosystems in the OIC Member Countries” on 22-23 August 2023 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training workshop was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye, the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of the Republic of Türkiye. Competent speakers shared the vast expertise of their Esteemed Institutions with experts and executives from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authorities and relevant national institutions in the OIC Member Countries.

The main aim of the training workshop was to emphasize the importance of timely coordination among different stakeholders for the development of entrepreneurship and startup ecosystems in the OIC Member Countries. By focusing on coordinated efforts across various national and regional entities, the workshop explored effective support mechanisms and initiatives that bolster sustainable entrepreneurial activities.

The training workshop consisted of sessions with the following headings:

• Activities to Create Sustainable Companies
• Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Türkiye
• TOBB’s Support Mechanisms for Startup Ecosystem and Technology-Based Startups
• An Overview of Entrepreneurship Practices in the Vocational and Technical Education System of Türkiye
• Turkish Startup Ecosystem and Promoting Entrepreneurship in Türkiye

As an initiative of SESRIC, the Vocational Education and Training Programme for the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC-VET) was launched in 2009 at the COMCEC Economic Summit in Istanbul, Türkiye. The main aim of the programme is to enhance the quality of TVET systems in the OIC Member Countries, as well as to assist them in their efforts to overcome challenges and constraints in the TVET sector. Within the framework of the OIC-VET Programme and in line with its Strategic Roadmap for the years 2020-2025, SESRIC, in its capacity as the Executing OIC Organ of the Programme, initiates and implements various capacity-building training activities by facilitating the transfer and exchange of know-how, knowledge and experience among the national TVET institutions in the OIC Member Countries. These activities cover a diverse range of topics, including entrepreneurship skills development, and embrace a blended model of delivery approach by combining face-to-face and virtual for increased efficiency and flexibility.
