Online Training Course on 'SDG 13 (Climate Action) Indicators'

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised an Online Training Course on 'SDG 13 (Climate Action) Indicators' with the participation of 41 attendees from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of 10 OIC countries on 22-25 June 2021.

Mr. Pierre SOHKADJIE SONGO, Head of the Division of Cartography and Statistics on Environment and Climate Change at the National Institute of Statistics (INS) of Cameroon conducted the course and covered the following topics:

  • Module 1: International conventions on climate change and the challenge for statistics
  • Module 2: Climate change and its possible impacts on African countries
  • Module 3: Statistical tools for climate change analysis
  • Module 4: Physiological characteristics of climate change
  • Module 5: Understanding the issues and challenges of SDG 13
  • Module 6: International monitoring indicators for SDG 13
  • Module 7: Tools for assessing vulnerability and planning adaptation to climate change
  • Module 8: Deforestation in climate change and the REDD process
  • Module 9: Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (CDSE 2013)
  • Module 10: Anchoring SDG13 and the CDSE 2013
  • Module 11: National monitoring indicators for SDG 13 and Niger case studies
  • Module 12: Assessment of data for SDG 13 for Niger
  • Overall synthesis and selection of a minimum package of indicators for monitoring climate change in Niger

The course was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19.
