Training Workshop on ‘Quality Management in Public Audit’

Within the framework of SESRIC’s Public Audit Capacity Building Programme (PAU-CaB), the Centre, in collaboration with the Turkish Court of Accounts, organised a Training Workshop on “Quality Management in Public Audit” on 15-16 June 2021 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training workshop brought together 51 participants from the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) and the relevant Ministries of 17 OIC member countries to strengthen their technical capacities on quality management in public audit and provide insights into quality control process in the regularity and performance audits. The training workshop also included an exchange of experience session to facilitate sharing of information and best practices among the participants on quality assurance in the public audit.

In his speech at the opening session, Mr. Fadi FARASIN, Assistant Director General of SESRIC, highlighted the critical role of public auditing in achieving the relevant strategic goals of the OIC 2025: Programme of Action and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. He also touched upon the importance of public auditing for unlocking the potential of public sector entities to fulfil their duties in an accountable and transparent manner.

In his welcoming remarks, H.E. Mr. Seyit Ahmet BAŞ, President of the Turkish Court of Accounts, highlighted the direct relationship between public sector audit and good governance as well as the intermediary mission of SAIs as an important actor in democratic systems. He also appreciated the efforts made by SESRIC towards organising this training workshop and emphasized the readiness and willingness of the Turkish Court of Accounts to further share its knowledge and expertise on requested subjects with other SAIs of the OIC member countries.

The topics discussed during the training workshop included:

  • ISSAI 140 Quality Controls for Supreme Audit Institutions,
  • Quality Control Process in Regularity Audits and Performance Audits,
  • Quality Assurance as a Monitoring for Quality Control System.

This training workshop was conducted in line with the virtual solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this challenging time of global crisis due to COVID-19 pandemic.
