Online Training Course on ‘Transport Statistics’

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised on 21-24 July 2020 an Online Training Course on ‘Transport Statistics’ for the benefit of the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Analysis (INSAE) of Benin.

Mr. Jean Paul DIAGNE, Head of the Bureau of Sectoral Statistics at Directorate of Economic Statistics and National Accounts of the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD) of Senegal conducted the course with the participation of 24 officials of the INSAE of Benin together with the relevant officials of Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation and representatives from the transportation sector of Benin.

The training course covered the following topics:

  • Institutional framework for the production of transport statistics
  • Definitions and basic concepts in transport statistics
  • Data sources for collecting transport statistics
  • Collection and processing method
  • Calculation of transport indicators
  • Assessment of the quality of transport data
  • Analysis of transport data (SES transport)

The course was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19
