Webinar on 'Economic Impacts of the Covid-19 Pandemic on OIC Countries'

The Statistical, Economic and Social Research, and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies (ORSAM), OSTIM Technical University and Istanbul University jointly organized a Webinar on “Economic Impacts of the Covid-19 Pandemic on OIC Countries” on 06 July 2020. High-level speakers from various background came together to discuss economic impacts of COVID-19 from different perspectives, including energy, technology and employment.

The opening session, moderated by Mr. Fadi Abdullah FARASIN, Assistant Director General of SESRIC, started with the welcoming remarks delivered respectively by H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General of SESRIC, Prof. Dr. Murat YULEK, Rector of OSTIM Technical University, Prof. Dr. Sayım YORGUN, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University and Prof. Dr. Ahmet UYSAL, President of ORSAM.

Following the opening session, the panel discussion, moderated by Prof. Dr. Murat YULEK, commenced with the keynote presentation made by Mr. Mazhar HUSSAIN, Director of Economic and Social Research Department at SESRIC. In his keynote, Mr. HUSSAIN presented the main findings of the report of SESRIC titled “Socio-Economic Impacts of COVID-19 Pandemic in OIC Member Countries: Prospects and Challenges.”

Afterwards, the webinar continued with the presentations of the distinguished panel members, respectively:

  • Prof. Dr. Hasan MANDAL, President of TUBITAK: “Corona and Technological Development in Turkey and the Muslim World”
  • Prof. Dr. Erdal Tanas KARAGÖL, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University: “Energy and Employment Perspective of Covid-19 in the Muslim World”
  • Prof. Dr. Habib KABIR, Head of the Institute of Energy and Environment, Islamic University of Technology (IUT): “Challenges of the Energy Sector within the COVID-19 Crisis: Asia and Bangladesh Perspective”
